Ian Hipps

Hello, and welcome to my website!

My name is Ian Hipps and I am a professional violinist currently based in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I am a freelance performer and private instructor serving Northeastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York.

I started playing the violin at the age of 13 through the public school system and was instantly transformed by the beauty of Classical music. Just two years later, I started peforming in regional professional groups, masterclasses, and competitions. At the age of 16, I became the concertmaster of the Northern Tier Symphony Orchestra and later mentored as a first violinist with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic.

I am a very passionate teacher and many of my students have participated in NYSSMA, PMEA, SJBODA, and WMEA regional and all-state competitions. Many have also performed with top youth ensembles throughout the United States. I am an advocate of the London College of Music system and teach the typical repertoire sequence outlined in the Suzuki Method.

In 2022 I received a degree in Violin Performance and was awarded a full scholarship. I have also recieved performance awards from the Theodore Presser Foundation and the Kennedy Center.
